Teach and Encourage My Kids Are you looking for a church community that provides many enriching Christian Education opportunities for children? Do you believe that your children learn best by doing and asking questions? At St. Thomas we provide many ways for children to learn and grow into the knowledge and love of God. To understand our perspective, please read these Christian Education goals: First, we would like all St. Thomas children to enjoy the varied experience of God, including prayer and scripture, as well as the rich history and tradition of the church. Next, we want our children to value and be valued by the church community, providing a safe place to belong, grow and endeavor in faith, ask difficult questions, and be wholly accepted. Then we would like to help our children celebrate that we are God's beloved and that we may call upon God at any time. Finally, we would like our children to absorb the fundamental nature of faith through the example of committed Christian mentors. At St. Thomas we understand stewardship to be the commitment of all that we are and all that we have to the service of God and our neighbor. We encourage everyone, including our children, to give from the God-given resources that we control, including money, time and talent. We offer our children an alternative to the intense cultural pressure to take and hoard as much as possible for ourselves, motivated by fear and insecurity. We want our children to understand the importance of giving when motivated by love and belief in God-given abundance. Bring your children and come join us as we encourage our children, like us, to pledge money, time and talent to the service of God and neighbor. At St. Thomas, children and youth are encouraged to participate regularly in worship. Weekly, children and youth serve as acolytes, assisting the priest, deacon and other clergy during worship. Now children and youth serve as hospitality team members, helping to welcome and assist the congregation. In addition, children and youth serve as lectors, reading lessons from scripture during worship. Like adults, children learn much during worship by singing or listening to hymns, participating in worship, and listening to a priest or deacon preaching.
